Designed to measure and continuously report the following parameters:
DC voltage across the battery terminals
AC ripple voltage across the battery terminals
Battery’s ohmic value
Temperature at negative battery post
There are four standard sensor types for the four different nominal voltages:

Wireless CT with Ambient Sensor

DC current measurement

Thanks to its Dual-Core Technology, the Wireless Current Transducer measures DC current of 1 A or 800 A with the same high accuracy. It uses field proven Hall Effect based circuitry to provide a superior solution for DC applications, with minimal risk of permanent magnetization.

Ambient temperature measurement

Ambient temperature measurement is useful in detecting faulty air conditioning or improper ventilation. Our WCTA can be used in conjunction with our CellSPY battery monitors to detect a thermal runaway in its earliest stages.

HOW POWERSHIELD8 FOR LITHIUM WORKS

Measure, Analyse, Present.

The PowerShield8 Advanced Battery Monitoring system is best understood in the three layers shown in the systems diagram above.

Measure Layer

All measurement is handled by the Lithium BMS.

Analyse Layer

The Controller collects and stores data from the Lithium BMS, and sends it to the presentation layer. Value is added by comprehensive battery and ancilliary data capture – ensuring root cause of BMS alarms can be clearly seen. Smart logging facilitates improved event based and trend analysis. The Controller retrieves the string state from the BMS, and manufacturer alarm limits are re-presented.

Presentation and User Interface layer

The presentation layer is where battery monitoring switches to battery management. PowerShield provides a range of user interface tools to view, report and analyse your batteries. Whether as a field service tool (Controller UI), on-premise software (Link) or cloud platform (Assure). PowerShield gives you full visibility from battery commissioning to end of life.

Controllers

The brains of the battery monitoring system

Controllers are smart devices that collect, analyse and store the battery measurements retrieved from the Lithium BMS. Continuous, fast data sampling in all string states (float, charge, discharge and idle) allows the Controller to initiate event logging and provide real time battery visibility and status.

Advanced data logging (7 log types) makes fault finding, assessing performance under discharge and life trend analysis easier. Value is added by calculating key battery management metrics. Every Controller has sufficient onboard storage capacity for the life of your batteries. Alarms are output via Link and Assure, and relay contacts when required.


The Controller has a browser based UI for configuring the system and to visualise real time battery measurements. In the battery room, a dedicated service port, USB, SD card and LCD give simple visibility and data transfer options. Designed with two network ports, it allows the customer network to remain secure and uninterrupted during service visits.

The brains of the battery monitoring systemThe MX Controller is designed for medium-sized battery installations, up to 2 strings. The LX model can monitor up to 8 strings and the LX+ up to 12 strings. The LX models also provide more input, output and user interface options, including an LCD screen and key pad. All Controller models are designed to fit into standard 19 inch computer racks and cabinets. Both Controllers have the same functionality and browser interface. There is a Controller option to suit any battery installation.
